Periprosthetic loosening: Facts, figures and numbers

The introduction of artificial joints is one of the great successes in the history of medical research. The procedure is today a standardized procedure and it increases the patients quality of life dramatically. Nevertheless, 10-20% of the patients experience loosening of the prosthesis within a short period of time after the surgery, and ultimately, most prosthesis become loose.
